DIETARY ADVICE

Healthy skin starts from within, therefore it's important to maintain good gut health.
Minimising inflammatory foods such as sugars, fatty, dairy and fried foods helps to maintain a happy gut.

Inflammatory foods examples: milk, cheese, citrus fruits, chocolate, chips etc.

Examples of anti-inflammatory food examples leafy greens, fatty fish (salmon), berries, and nuts.

Monitor sugar intake to help reduce the ageing effect on the skin called glycation. Reducing sugar intake will also help to balance sugar levels and hormones, which directly impact skin quality.

Monitor savoury snack intake to reduce oxidative stress and inflammatory reactions within the skin - This causes an imbalance of 'free radicals' which feed off your skin's natural reserve. This overtime can cause dull, tired, lacklustre skin.

Alcohol - Alcohol is deemed as an inflammatory substance as it causes the body to go into fight or flight. This is a response to an increase of the toxic substance, putting an extra burden on the filtration system (kidneys, liver etc). In addition to this, alcohol increases the release of histamines within the body, resulting in blood vessels dilating. This commonly causes the skin to flush and can cause flare-ups in certain conditions, such as rosacea and acne. Prolonged alcohol exposure can cause damage to the vessels and dehydrate the skin.

Caffeine - Excessive amounts of caffeine can cause the skin to become dehydrated and, over time, thin. This can result in sunken undereyes and dull and dry skin. In addition to this, caffeine can overstimulate the gut if consumed first thing in the morning. It is, therefore, advised to delay consumption for 1 hour after awakening.

We recommend supplementing your diet to ensure you are getting all the key nutrients needed to feed your skin and body.
